"The Age of Innocence" - the most famous of the novels of the outstanding American writer Edith Wharton (1862-1937), which is rightly considered a masterpiece. The novel is set in the 70s of the XIX century, and its characters belong to the top of American society at that time - prim, deeply traditional, deaf to new trends. No wonder that the main characters inevitably find themselves in conflict with their environment and are forced to make difficult choices. Magnificent plot, sharpened writing, heartfelt and psychologically accurate images of characters - all this brought Edith Wharton Pulitzer Prize in 1921, the first time in history awarded to a woman. 

The popularity of "The Age of Innocence" and today is truly huge - this was facilitated by a brilliant adaptation, realized in 1993 by director Martin Scorsese with Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder in the lead roles.
